This is "THE IMPORTANT WORK" that no one else sees except in the guise of finished pieces. This is "THE IMPORTANT WORK" that embodies the journey of who I am. A journey that seems to go off track, but then levels off and returns to the original voyage that began so long ago. I realize that its okay that it only holds significance to me and for me. Its one of the few things that I can be selfish and selfless about, just for me.
Sometimes "THE IMPORTANT WORK" seems so simple to outsiders or even other artists. A join that is well soldered, a saw cut that is even and smooth, a practised hand finish, a beautiful patina and all the care that is required to accomplish even basic, but foundational skills. They all require just that, skill. And a devotion to those things that make up a whole, gorgeous, extraordinary piece that is wonderful just because of these details.
I have come to understand that "THE IMPORTANT WORK" is and always will be what I make it.
