SUNDAY FUNDAY 8-14-16, HOT, HOT, HOT!!!!

Hi Everyone!

A little late with my post this week.  Still recovering from the heat last Sunday, but I wanted to thank all the vendors who stayed as long as they could because it was a "SCORCHER"!!!  You are all my heros!!!

I wanted to give a shout-out to Dolores, Vivian, Lois, Danae and Tony who we met for the first time on Sunday.  They are members of the Santa Rosa Band of Cahuilla Indians.  Beautiful people!!!  Here are a pair of beaded earrings created by Dolores that I had the privilege of purchasing.  I enjoyed your company and hope to see all of you next Sunday!!!

Please check out the information on the culture, history, tribal government and economy of the Santa Rosa Band of Cahuilla Indians.

"SUNDAY FUNDAY" SPOTLIGHT FEATURE!!!

"GOURD ART BY MICHELE"!!!

This past Sunday I had the pleasure of speaking with Michele E. McMillan who is an outstanding artisan who transforms gourds into beautiful receptacles embellished with leather, silver/gold foiling, paint, carving, turquoise, beading, grass weaving and wood burning techniques.  The surface preparation of each gourd is the first part of an incredible journey into designing decorative items that each hold a wonderful earthy, rustic, and primitive spirit.  Michele also cultivates her own gourds, and is a teacher and educator on the fascinating subject of gourds.

Here are a few examples of her fine art work:

Gourd with woven grass, shed antlers, beads and feathers.

Gourd with wood burning technique, gold foil and leather.

Gourd with woven leather, Turquoise, Silver Concha.

Gourd with carving, paint, silver foil, leather and beads.

Here is an interesting article entitled, "The Glory of Gourds" for more information.

Many Blessings,

Saadia
