Zandra Rhodes - Fashion and Textile Artist Extraordinare!

Anyone remember Zandra Rhodes?

Fashion and Textile Artist Extraordinare!  The "Pioneer of Punk" in the 1970's."

Actually, she is more than a fashion designer or just a textile artist.  She is a British "One-of-A-Kind" fashion alchemist who has been a force to be reckoned with over the last five decades.  She helped to catapult London to the "Head of the Class" when it comes to innovative art and textile design in the 1970's.

Her work is of the highest caliber inspired by nature and organic material.  Her designs are statement pieces that embody the dramatic and the extroverted with a touch of glamour.  She has been dedicated to establishing her identity in every piece she makes.  Along with creating fashion for the "catwalk" she has extended her hand to include costume design for various opera institutions such as the "San Diego" and "Houston Grand" opera houses as well as the "English National Opera."

The designer is now appointed (DBE) Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire as of 2014.  In 2009 she was appointed chancellor of the UK's University for the Creative Arts that is only one of two universities in Britain that specifically concentrates on art and design. A "Digital Study" archive of her designs and drawings has been installed at the university that includes studio "in-house" interviews and tutorials.  She is also founder of the UK's Fashion and Textile Museum in London that opened in 2003.  She is indeed an "International" treasure who continues to be true to herself and her design ethics.
